Originally Released by Morpheus Descends / Angel Dust Records on MCD in 1997 limited to 1000 copies which are SOLD OUT!
Also Released on a Limited LP by Dark Descent Records in 2017 which is now SOLD OUT!

The last material Morpheus Descends bestowed upon us from 1997, continuing in the same fashion where they left off on the 1994 CHRONICLES OF THE SHAOWED ONES release. Low guttural vocals, doomy, brutal guitar and spectral lyrical ideas are here in full force. MORPHEUS DESCENDS still has an uncanny sense of dread and unease in their riff writing and song construction. This band never ceases to amaze me and truly they are the greatest thing to have come out of New York after Incantation. - Write up courtesy of: audioslave666raj

MORPHEUS DESCENDS - CHRONICLES OF THE SHADOWED ONES

Year: 1994 | SKU: NONE | Formats: JEWEL CD, LP | Availability: Sold Out

Originally Released by Morpheus Descends on MCD in 1994 and limited to 1000 copies which are SOLD OUT!
Also Released on a Limited LP by Dark Descent Records in 2017 which is now SOLD OUT!

Chronicles Of Shadowed Ones is a concept album based on the modern horror fiction of Brim Lumley, specifically the Necroscope series. Its motifs of paranormal powers and the occult, featuring a mythology of deranged vampire-like creatures out of parallel worlds are disturbingly captured by the abrasive atmosphere of the music.

Stylistically, unlike the album that precedes it, there's less of the crushing, excessively rhythmic precision archetypical of the North American tradition, pioneered and perfected by peers Suffocation; Morpheus Descends lies in a vein closer to Incantation, more interested in subtle, evolving melodic development and alternating tempos between the frenzied very fast and the somber death/doom when it best suits the narrative. In fact, at parts sinister tremolo-picked melodies nearly borders Swedish Death Metal.

The most intimate contact with the listener is through the extremely dexterous and dynamic drumming. In all its conventional North American primacy, the blasting is clear, frenetic at times, and approaches a more ritualistic and warlike rhythm during the epic apex of the album. Closely behind it, and lacking completely this discrete execution stands the true instrumental grandeur of the album, the distant landscapes carved by the strings, echoing on each song distinctive, expansive melodic themes such as the heroic introduction of The Cruciform Hills and the desolate, pessimistic mood of Autumn Bleed. A layer farther in this atmosphere of evilness, rough guttural narratives emanate pernicious messages. Undecipherable are the words of this complex tale of hunting and death.

For the last track Moupho Alde Ferenc Yaborov we are surprised with the recapitulation of the inhuman howls from the begining of the first track and are stripped away from the metal realm, and perhaps even from the musical realm altogether. Cinematic dark ambient brings forth images of barren caverns with unknown dangers, tainted by fiendish creatures hungry for blood. Frightening monstrous growls infest the audible content of this long track alongside what seems to be very distant feral, tribal rhythms. Thus, with an ambiguous but arguably injurious resolution is finished one of the finest works of the Golden Era of Death Metal.

MORPHEUS DESCENDS were a support act on two mini tours and played numerous festivals of which playing the now infamous Milwaukee Metal fest two times in a row was the high point. MORPHEUS DESCENDS also were a support band for a few dates on the first US TOUR of ENSLAVED for their "Frost" album.

SUBCONSCIOUS - PSYCHOSIS OF MELODY
Year: 1991 | SKU: NONE | Formats: TAPE | Availability: Sold Out

Currently Unavailable on any format or platform by DHR.

The First demo by SUBCONSCIOUS! Artwork was hand drawn and xeroxed by Keeb Sutton. There were less than 50 copies duped and circulated among close friends and crew of the band. The band was in the primordial state and this was a very rough bedroom recording. This first recording was inspired by the sound and tradition of bands like Exodus, Death, Forbidden, DRI as well as numerous early underground thrash and death metal bands of the time. SUBCONSCIOUS eventually morphed into a Brutal Death Metal Band in 1992. SUBSCONSCIOUS was formed by John "Andy" Newton aka Lord Typhus in 1991 along with Keeb Sutton, RIP Brother! See you in Valhalla! (Subconscious, Coffin Witch, Cryptic), Jason "Sutton" Hatzel (Subconscious, Coffin Witch, Cryptic), Bryan Johnston (Subconscious, Morpheus Descends, Thy Darkest Empire, Mytherium), and Bryan Leverenz (Subconscious, Ratzkreig). This band released 5 demos only 4 of which were Bloody Stump Productions releases. BSP was the pre DHR independent mail order ran by Andy and Keeb in the early 90's. The demo tapes were very limited and traded out to the others involved in the underground tape trading scenes around the USA. The band was well received and respected in the Midwest and East Coast metal scene of the early 90's. The band booked, promoted, opened and headlined shows all over their home state of Indiana as well as in Chicago, Cleveland, Toledo, Detroit... so many shows it is insane! The band eventually fell into obscurity and the people involved all moved on to other projects.

- Andy Newton aka Lord Typhus owner of DHR was the recording session / live vocalist as well as co-executive producer for this demo.
