TITLE: Shadows Of The Sun
STYLE: Modern Classical, Ambient,
LABEL: Jester Records / The End Records
First pressing of the 2007 album "Shadows of the Sun" by ULVER.
Listening to this album it's almost impossible to remember that Ulver was a black metal band. All is so ethereal, impalpable; keyboards and strings seem to create a soundtrack for an infinite journey. Garms vocals are at their best, filled with emotions that are deeply expressive and magnetic. Opposing electronic music to classical instruments, ULVER write delicate symphonies for an intimate end of the world. A soundtrack to a dystopic funeral full of apocalyptic folk and even tipping the hat to Black Sabbath with their excellent and shoegaze version of "Solitude" from Sabbath's timeless masterpiece "Master Of Reality". Overall one of ULVER's best non metal releases!
ULVER are a Genre-spanning group from Norway, active since 1993. On their demos and first album, "Bergtatt", they played black/folk metal, 1996's "Kveldssanger" is an entirely acoustic folk album and 1997's "Nattens Madrigal" is raw, aggressive black metal. Around 1998 they began producing experimental, electronic and avantgarde music. Regardless they have many mandatory EP's and albums that should be in your collection!
Ulver means "Wolves" in Norwegian.
